How the Cooperative Acquisitions Program Works

Description

The Cooperative Acquisitions Program for the East Africa Region was established in 1992. The program has expanded over the years to include the acquisition of scholarly works from Botswana, Cameroon, Ethiopia (Amharic-language materials), Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, Namibia, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. The program also offers human rights, legal, statistical, and vernacular language publications from all countries in the region.

Billing and Reporting

A billing and summary statement covering the estimated costs for the participation in the Cooperative Acquisition Program for the financial period is provided to every participant. The estimates are based on the costs incurred during the previous fiscal year plus an inflationary amount. For FY 2009 participants are charged 95 percent of the cost of publications supplied for indirect/overhead expenditures. Shipping charges include the actual postal charges for USPS or DHL. A charge is also made for air freight services for shipments from other African countries to Nairobi. The Nairobi Office submits cumulative quarterly reports of expenditures to every participant.
