About the Exchange Program


The Nairobi Office acquires publications for the Library of Congress through exchange agreements with the twenty-nine African countries covered by the office.

The Library of Congress is interested in receiving publications in all subject areas except clinical medicine and technical agriculture which are collected by the National Library of Medicine and the National Agricultural Library, respectively. In addition to books, pamphlets, newspapers, and periodicals in nearly all languages, the Library collects maps, microfilm, prints, photographs, sheet music, recordings, digital and electronic resources.

Publishers located in the region covered by the Nairobi Office may wish to exchange their publications with publications offered on exchange by the Nairobi Office. The Nairobi Office exchange materials include: Africana, computer science, library science, and reference materials which are sent from the Library of Congress, Washington. D.C.
