Participating in the EPR requires very little of your time and only a small amount of blood (about 1 tablespoon). You will be asked to provide us with certain information including your name, address and contact information and answer a couple of questions about your age, race and ethnicity. You will also receive $20.00 for participating in the EPR to help cover your time and travel expenses.
You can enroll in the EPR in one of three ways:
UNC and Rex Healthcare Patients - At UNC, there are recruitment tables for the EPR periodically set up outside of the blood drawing clinics at the Family Practice Clinic and Ambulatory Care Center. At Rex Hospital (Raleigh), there is an EPR recruitment table set up outside of the outpatient blood drawing lab. These recruitment sites are only for UNC and Rex outpatients already having blood drawn as ordered by their physicians, but who also wish to participate in the EPR. The addresses for the three clinics are given below. Contact Tracy DeLozier (contact info is given at bottom of page) to check the dates and times of these recruitment sites.

General Recruitment - Any individuals who are 18 years of age or older can participate in the EPR. Recruitment for the general public, UNC employees, and students is offered at the UNC General Clinical Research Center (GCRC) in the main hospital and at Integrated Laboratory Systems in Research Triangle Park. The addresses for these two recruitment sites are given below. To participate at one of these centers, please call (919) 281-1110 x747 or e-mail hvahdat@ils-inc.com to schedule an appointment or ask for more information. Participation should take only about 10-15 minutes of your time.
Note: If you are planning to participate at one of the UNC campus locations (Family Practice Clinic, Ambulatory Care Center, or General Clinical Research Center), you will need a UNC medical record card even if you have never been a patient there. If you already have one, please bring it with you when you come. If you do not have one, you can easily obtain one from the patient registration desk in the main lobby at each clinic.
Corporate Study Drives - We will also be holding study drives at various corporations and health fairs throughout the greater RTP area. If you are a corporation and would like to host a study drive, please contact Tracy DeLozier. If your corporation holds health fairs for its employees, this would be a good opportunity for them to learn more about environmental diseases and participate in research. This site will be updated with the dates and times of our corporate study drives.
For more information about the specific recruitment sites, dates and times of recruitment, please contact Tracy DeLozier using the information below.
Creation of the EPR has been reviewed and approved by the Office of Human Research Ethics (OHRE), the Biomedical Institutional Review Board at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Institutional Review Board at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, National Institutes of Health.
