 Rock Creek Mine Decision Affirmed by Regional Office
Late last Friday, the Forest Service's Northern Regional Office affirmed the decision by Kootenai Forest Supervisor Bob Castaneda on the Rock Creek Mine Record of Decision (ROD).

 Community Workgroup Meeting to Discuss Forest Plan Issues
On June 19, 2003, several members of the public attended a meeting to share their issues with the Forest Service in regards to revision of the Kootenai Forest Plan. From that meeting, several people indicated that they wanted to participate in a workgroup to work further with the Forest Service on specific issues that will be dealt with in the revision of the Forest Plans. A workgroup meeting is scheduled for August 19, 2003 at 6:30 – 8:30 pm. at City Hall in the Ponderosa Room in Libby, Montana.

 Agency Panel Discussion on Forest Plan Revision
The Forest Service has scheduled a meeting in Libby on August 18, 2003 at 7:00 pm. for the public to learn about the role of regulatory agencies in helping to revise the Kootenai Forest Plan. The meeting will be held in the Ponderosa Room at City Hall, located at 952 E. Spruce Street.

With fires in the area and fire danger high, the Kootenai National Forest is now accepting applications for firefighting and crew positions.

 Kootenai National Forest Fire Activity
The Kootenai and Idaho Panhandle National Forests, Idaho State Lands, along with four rural fire departments (including Troy and McCormack), initial attacked the Lime fire near the Montana/Idaho state line just north of Highway 2.

The Kootenai National Forest and Lincoln County Commissioners have extended the deadline for citizens to apply for positions as replacement members on the Lincoln County Resource Advisory Committee (RAC).

 Fires Reported on the Kootenai National Forest
The Kootenai National Forest (KNF) has confirmed 12 fires from the lightning strikes of July 15. The general locations of the fires are on the Cabinet, Libby, and Fortine Districts and on State lands. The largest fire is one-half acre.

 Kootenai Disappointed by Old Growth Lawsuit Ruling
On July 1st, the Kootenai National Forest received partial summary judgment on a long-awaited ruling from Federal District Judge Donald Malloy on a lawsuit regarding how the Forest is managing old growth habitat.

Following 16 years of comprehensive and detailed environmental analysis and review, the Kootenai National Forest (NF) today announced release of the Record of Decision (ROD) for Sterling Mining Company's Plan of Operation for the Rock Creek Mine Project in Sanders County, Montana.
