Near the Filipino capitol of Manila, the Red Arrow Men of the 32nd Division fought the Japanese defenders. The American troops claimed they had been the first Army unit to go on the offensive in the Pacific, and they had fought from New Guinea to the Philippines. The troops in this photograph are part of Company L, 3rd Battalion, 128th Infantry Regiment, positioned on Hill 604, near Manila. During the War, more than one million Filipinos were killed.
