Before World War II, the Pullman Sleeping Car was synonymous with luxury travel in America. In 1942, the cars were pressed into service to help solve the major problem of moving large numbers of inductees, volunteers and regular military troops. Men and their equipment had to moved to and from training and then to coastal bases for embarcation to the war zone. This solider seems to have all of his equipment with him, including what appears to be a vintage rifle and his helmet. He is not in the usual Pullman berth, but he has found enough space to lean back slightly and catch as much sleep as he can. Medium : 1 photographic print Created/Published : 1942(?)
