Program Implementation

Management provides the resources for program implementation and maintenance, including a sufficient budget, technical information, assigned responsibility, adequate expertise and authority, line accountability, and program evaluation procedures. The following are typical core elements: management leadership and employee participation; hazard identification and assessment; hazard prevention and control; information and training; and evaluation of program effectiveness. An evaluation looks at the systems that have been created to carry out the program. It asks if they are working effectively. All systems that contribute to the safety and health program should be reviewed. Document reviews, employee interviews, and reviews of site conditions are useful evaluation tools that will be the basis for an evaluation report. The following references detail the implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of an effective safety and health program.
