Rotorcraft
- Design Approval Process - While the technical requirements for rotorcraft are different from other aircraft the design approval process is the same.
- How to Certify
- Normal Category Rotorcraft (14 CFR part 27) - 7000 pounds or less, and nine or less passenger seats
- Transport Category Rotorcraft (14 CFR part 29) - Bigger/heavier rotorcraft (above 7000 lbs). Though you can technically certify a rotorcraft under 7000 lbs in the transport category, this is not historically done.
- Night Vision Imaging System (NVIS)/ Night Vision Goggles (NVG)
- Restricted Category, Military Surplus Rotorcraft
- Policy Memorandum (PDF) , Certification of Foreign Military Surplus Aircraft
- Ineligible Serial Numbers
- Rotorcraft Directorate
- Rotorcraft Regulations & Policies
- Special Airworthiness Information Bulletins (SAIB) - The criteria for when to issue an SAIB for Rotorcraft products can be found in FAA National Policy 8110.100
- Type Validation
- Normal Category Rotorcraft Type Validation Items (PDF) , 14 CFR part 27
- Transport Category Rotorcraft Type Validation Items (PDF) , 14 CFR part 29
- Standards Differences
14 CFR part 27 and part 29 are harmonized with European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Certification Specifications (CS), CS 27 and CS 29, respectively. There are no substantive standards differences.
