The FAA will only issue product design approvals to an applicant in a country with which the United States has concluded a bilateral agreement for the export and import airworthiness certification of such products. Please check the Bilateral Agreement Listing for specific information on your country.

Additionally, the FAA does not normally issue a type design approval for a product manufactured outside the United States (in other words, the State of Design is a country other than the United States), unless the product is intended for use under the U.S. Registry or for operation by a U.S. operator under lease or charter. Foreign applicants for U.S. design approval must provide the FAA with evidence that the product will be imported into the United States, or will be installed in a U.S. registered or U.S. manufactured product.
