Abstract This study determined the redistribution paths of released forces resulting from column failure in framed structures. In the study, several column failure scenarios are implemented in a multistory, multibay space frame and the internal redistribution of released forces is calculated by performing 3-dimensional structural analyses. The main force redistribution mechanisms are identified, and it is shown that they can be predicted with reasonable accuracy by using basic structural analysis. The details of the study are described, and the results are presented and discussed.
