Abstract This workshop paper is based upon the preliminary results of a survey of innovative equipment for road construction and maintenance recently completed by the Transport Research Laboratory for the United Kingdom Department of Transport. The types of equipment covered include following: chip seal equipment, resurfacing equipment, crack fillers and patchers, a small mobile bituminous batching plant, and combined paving-compaction machines. Innovative equipment development in Europe appears to be primarily directed at preventive maintenance and rehabilitation.
