Abstract |
The Detroit & Canada Tunnel Corporation is a for profit, publicly owned Corporation who since 1930 has operated the Detroit Windsor Tunnel, an international tunnel linking the cities of Detroit, Michigan with Windsor, Ontario. Today, some 6.5 million vehicles pass through the tunnel annually. Today, the corporation continues to operate the Detroit Windsor Tunnel for both cities, but under two different relationships. With the city of Detroit, the company's operation of the tunnel is through a lease operation which currently runs through the year 2020. The company pays the City of Detroit an annual fee that is a computed percent of net profits based on a five year average. For Windsor, the Tunnel Corporation operates the entire tunnel and the Windsor Plaza, and is more financially and policy-wise involved. |
