The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Ernest F. Hollings (Hollings) scholarship program is designed to: (1) increase undergraduate training in oceanic and atmospheric science, research, technology, and education and foster multidisciplinary training opportunities; (2) increase public understanding and support for stewardship of the ocean and atmosphere and improve environmental literacy; (3) recruit and prepare students for public service careers with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and other natural resource and science agencies at the federal, state and local levels of government; and (4) recruit and prepare students for careers as teachers and educators in oceanic and atmospheric science and to improve scientific and environmental education in the United States.
Eligible undergraduates studying oceanic, environmental, biological, and atmospheric sciences, mathematics, engineering, remote sensing technology, physical and social sciences including geography, physics, hydrology, geomatics, or teacher education that support NOAA's programs and mission are encouraged to apply. |

Eligibility Requirements:
Number of Awards: NOAA anticipates awarding approximately 100 scholarships for the Fall 2006 school term. There is no guarantee that sufficient funds will be available to provide scholarships for all qualified students.

Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship Program is established by the Administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration under the authority of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2005 (PUBLIC LAW 108-447).
The Ernest F. Hollings scholarship program is managed by the Office of Education (OE), Office of the Undersecretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere (USEC), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
The Hollings scholarship program is administered under contract with NOAA by Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education.
Recipients of Other NOAA Undergraduate Scholarships: The Hollings Scholarship program will not consider applications from students who are current NOAA undergraduate scholars.
NOTE: Application materials will be copied and used solely for the purpose of selecting scholars and administering the NOAA Hollings Scholarship Program. Disclosure of the information is subject to Public Law 93-579 (Privacy Act of 1974). The application materials are maintained by Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education as per the cognizant Federal agency’s required system of records. |
