In July of 1985, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife opened the Non-Designated Port of Tampa, Florida to
provide more efficient service at a reduced cost to the public. With over 300 tropical fish farms within
50 miles of the Tampa airport, the inspector focuses significant attention on ensuring the humane shipment of live tropical fish. Approximately 1,500 commercial and non-commercial shipments a year
are inspected in Tampa; 70% are tropical fish and the remainder are coral, shells, live reptiles, and
reptile skin products. Business hours are from 8:00am to 4:30pm. By appointment, an inspector is available for weekend, holiday, and after hours inspections. Please notify the inspector 48 hours
before a shipment of live wildlife is submitted for clearance.
