Dubois Ranger District

The Dubois Ranger District on the Caribou-Targhee National Forest offers over 460,000 acres of opportunity to experience the great outdoors. Diamond Peak, the third highest point in Idaho, towers above the landscape at 12,197 feet. Approximately 410 miles of roads are open to full size vehicle travel and 221 miles of trails are open, with 90 miles open to motorized use.

District Travel Maps are available at the district office in Dubois or the East Idaho Visitor Center in Idaho Falls or you can download colored 8.5 X 11 inch travel maps off our website here.

Firewood Season will be starting June 11, 2007 and it will be open District Wide other than where it is marked closed on the map. The district will provide you with a map when you come to get your permit at the office. If you have any questions, you can call the district at 208-374-5422.

If you’re looking for a great recreational experience, visit the campgrounds located in the district.

Wildlife Viewing

Elk, deer, bighorn sheep, bear, antelope, mountain goats, cougars, and moose roam throughout the district. Sage grouse, blue grouse, ruffled grouse, sandhill cranes, and eagles can be seen as well.

 

Historical Charcoal Kilns

The Charcoal Kilns is a historical site with a picnic area nestled against the Lemhi mountains.
