Michael C. McLaughlin, Deputy Director
Mr. McLaughlin is the Deputy Director of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's Office of Electric Reliability. Established on October 1, 2007, the Office of Electric Reliability oversees the development and review of mandatory and enforceable reliability and security standards for the users, owners, and operators of the nation's bulk power system, as established by Congress and the President in the Energy Policy Act of 2005. The Office among other duties helps process reliability-related filings with the Commission and reviews the Electric Reliability Organization's assessments of the adequacy and reliability of the bulk power system for each region.
Mr. McLaughlin joined the Commission in 1984 as a technical advisor to Commissioner Charles G. Stalon. Since that time Mr. McLaughlin has held a number of senior management positions within the Commission. His last position being that of Director of the Division of Tariffs and Market Development-Central in the Office of Energy Markets and Reliability were he was responsible for matters relating to jurisdictional electric and natural gas facilities and services located in the central region of the United States.
A native of Illinois, Mr. McLaughlin has a B.S. in Business Economics and an M.S. in Economics from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Illinois. Prior to joining the Commission in 1984, Mr. McLaughlin served as an economic advisor to the members of the Illinois Commerce Commission. He has one daughter and resides in Silver Spring, Maryland with his wife Charlotte.
