Abstract	The Bloomington/Monroe County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), is an intergovernmental transportation policy group that manages transportation project funding for the Bloomington Urbanized Area. The MPO is responsible for ensuring that the Bloomington urbanized area's transportation planning program incorporates consultation, cooperation, and coordination between the MPO and other public and citizen organizations throughout the planning process. The basic objective of an MPO is "to encourage and promote the development of transportation systems embracing various modes of transportation in a manner which will efficiently maximize mobility of people and goods within and through urbanized areas and minimize transportation related fuel consumption and air pollution." The Transportation Planning Division provides short and long range transportation analysis and planning for the City of Bloomington. Staff reviews all current development petitions to ensure transportation needs are adequately met, and assists in the development of corridor studies and roadway projects.
