Abstract	The Collier Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) administers state and federal transportation funds and is the primary agency responsible for coordinating transportation planning activities in Collier County. The MPO is a legislative body with the resources to develop and adopt plans, programs, and policies. Transportation planning in Florida, by nature and by law, is a cooperative effort. The MPO is a primary member of Floridas transportation planning team. Local, state, and federal governments share the responsibilities of comprehensive transportation planning through the MPOs. The principal responsibilties of the MPO include establishing a continuing, cooperative, and comprehensive transporation planning process. Some of the process requirements are to: develop and maintain a long range transportation needs assessment and cost feasible plan; update a 5-year transportation improvement plan; provide planning services for a coordinated transportation system for the transportation disadvantaged; ensure continuity among the various planning efforts of local cities, the county, and the Florida Transportation Department; involve the public in the transportation planning process.
