B & B Complex Fires

 

Historic Information

  • Booth Fire
    • The fire was reported at 3:23 on August 19 by the Henkle Butte Lookout.
    • The fire burned on the Deschutes and Willamette National Forests in mixed conifer, lodgepole pine, and bug-killed timber. Significant portion of fire was within the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness.
  • Bear Butte Fire
    • The fire was reported at 1:09 on August 19 by a helicopter from Warm Springs.
    • The fire burned largely in the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness on to the Deschutes National Forest and a small area on the the Warm Springs Indian Reservation.
  • The Pacific Northwest National Incident Management Team 3, led by Bob Anderson, managed the complex from 8/21 to 9/6.
  • The fires burned together on September 4th.
  • Great Basin National Incident Management Team, led by Kim Martin, managed the complex from 9/7 to 9/17.
  • Cooler, wetter weather began on 9/7.
  • As of 9/9 the combined fires had burned 90,376 acres:
    • 42,248 acres -- non-wilderness Deschutes N.F.
    • 23,116 acres -- Mt. Jefferson Wilderness, Deschutes N.F.
    • 17,303 acres -- Mt. Jefferson Wilderness, Willamette N.F.
    • 3,799 acres -- Warm Springs Confederated Tribes
    • 2,739 acres -- non-wilderness Willamette N.F.
    • 1,089 acres -- Private
    • 82 acres -- State
  • As of 9/16 the total acreage burned had changed to 90,769 due to better mapping.
  • On 9/17 the official B&B Complex website became inactive. It's historic information can be reached above.
  • The Central Oregon Interagency Incident Management Team, managed the complex from 9/18 to 9/25 when it was turned over to the Sisters Ranger District.
