U.S. Institute Decides not to Convene "Working Group"

TUCSON, ARIZONA ( November 26, 2008) – Coronado National Forest officials were notified by the U.S Institute for Environmental Conflict Resolution of their decision to halt formation of a public “working group” to participate in an independent review of the environmental analysis for the proposed Rosemont mine. Forest Service and Rosemont Copper Company Agree to Extend EIS Timeline

In a modification to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Forest Service and Rosemont Copper Company dated January 30, 2008, the estimated timeline to develop the EIS has been extended. The Draft EIS, previously scheduled for March 2009, is now scheduled for November 2009. The Final EIS previously scheduled for October 2009 is now scheduled for July 2010.

In addition, the modification to the MOU also announces that the length of the public comment period to consider the Draft EIS will be doubled, from the 45 days required by law to 90 days.

Scoping Comments Released to the Public

All comments collected from scoping meetings, including six open houses and three hearings, have been posted online on our Comments page.

Online Documents

To provide a process that is as transparent as possible, the Coronado National Forest will attempt to publish online every document available through a Freedom of Information Action request. This will include all final, non-deliberative documents. These are located on our Documents page, which will be continuously updated.
