COMMERCE SECRETARY DALEY ANNOUNCES NEW ENGLAND FISHERY MANAGEMENT COUNCIL APPOINTMENT

Thomas R. Hill of Gloucester Serves Massachusetts Seat

Hill is president and founder of Atlantic and Pacific Marine Consultants Inc., a firm providing marine surveying and consulting services for the marine insurance, banking and legal community of New England. Hill represents the recreational fishing sector and previously served on the New England Council in 1991-1992, and again from 1992-1995. Mr. Hill will complete a three-year term ending on Aug. 10, 1999. He replaces Mario Costa who resigned in December 1996.

The council's 17 voting members develop fishery management plans that are reviewed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Marine Fisheries Service, and approved by the Secretary of Commerce.

The councils represent diverse fisheries interests and are composed of members whose combined knowledge and experience represent a balance of commercial and recreational fisheries interests for each geographical area concerned.

With the Secretary's appointment of Hill, at-large members on the council represent the states of Massachusetts, Maine, and Rhode Island as follows:
