Table of Contents: READ SECTION 1, ITEM 1A FIRST!

Sections
  • General Operational Policy/Procedures and Information Applicable To Pacific Operations
  • CNS Requirements and Operational Policy/Procedures For 50nm Lateral and 50nm Longitudinal Separation
  • CNS Requirements and Operational Policy/Procedures For 30nm lateral and 30nm Longitudinal Separation
  • RVSM (Reduced Vertical Separation Minimum)

SECTION 1
General Operational Policy/Procedures and Information Applicable To Pacific Operations

SECTION 2
CNS Requirements and Operational Policy/Procedures For 50nm Lateral and 50nm Longitudinal Separation

  • Overview: Minimum CNS Requirements For 50/50

    • 50nm Lateral Separation

    • Comm - HF Voice
    • Nav - Required Navigation Performance 10 (RNP-10) or better (e.g., RNP-4)
    • Surveillance - HF Voice position reports

    • 50nm Longitudinal Separation

    • Comm - Direct Controller-Pilot Communications (DCPC) via VHF voice or Satellite Controller-Pilot Datalink Communication (CPDLC) and, for oceanic operations, HF voice communications capability.
    • Nav - RNP-10 or better (e.g., RNP-4) is required. (Aircraft equipped with enhanced CNS capabilities will generally meet RNP-4 or better).
    • Surveillance - normal practice in the Anchorage and Oakland FIRs will be to apply 50nm longitudinal separation between aircraft pairs only when ADS-C surveillance is available.

  • Policy and Procedures: Satellite CPDLC (Controller-Pilot Datalink Communication) and Satellite ADS-C (Automatic Dependant Surveillance-Contract). See the following documents on the Data Link section of this web site:

    • AC 120-70A (Operational Authorization Process For Use of Data Link Communication System)
    • Data Link Approval Checklist
    • Operator Guide to Datalink Approval
    • FANS-1/A Operations Manual (FOM). The FOM is posted in Section 3, item 3C. The FOM contains policy and procedures for using CPDLC and ADS-C in the FIRs listed in FOM paragraph 1 (Introduction).

  • RNP-10 Navigation Requirements -
FAA Order 8400.12A (Required Navigation Performance 10 (RNP-10) Operational Approval (2/9/98))

  • General Operational Policy/Procedures -
The FAA Notice, “Operational Policy/Procedures For Pacific Oceanic Airspace”, posted in Section 1 applies.
SECTION 3
CNS Requirements and Operational Policy/Procedures For 30nm lateral and 30nm Longitudinal Separation (30/30)

  • Overview: Minimum CNS Requirements for 30/30

    • 30nm Lateral and Longitudinal Separation

    • Comm - Satellite CPDLC or VHF voice and, for oceanic operations, HF voice communications capability
    • Nav - RNP-4 or better
    • Surveillance - Satellite ADS-C

  • 30/30 Operational Policy & Procedures and Program Information -

  • RNP-4 Navigation Requirements
Operator note: U.S. operators will use FAA Order 8400.33. Non-U.S. operators should use one of the documents listed below to obtain RNP-4 or better authorization:

SECTION 4
RVSM (Reduced Vertical Separation Minimum)

  • RVSM Documentation Webpage The RVSM Documentation Webpage provides policy documents and references for operators that are seeking RVSM approval.

  • Policies and Procedures for Asia/Pacific Ocean Area of Operations The Asia/Pacific section of the RVSM Documentation Webpage contains operational policy and information for that area. The FAA Notice “Operational Policy/Procedures For Pacific Oceanic & Offshore Airspace” posted in Section 1 is also posted on the RVSM Documentation Webpage.
