COMPUTER SCIENCES CORPORATION SELECTED FOR NATIONAL DATA BUOY CENTER CONTRACT

The National Weather Service has awarded a one-year, cost-plus-award-fee contract to Computer Sciences Corp. to provide technical services to the National Data Buoy Center at Stennis Space Center, Miss. The contract includes four one-year renewal options.

Computer Sciences Corp., headquartered in Falls Church, Va., will provide comprehensive technical services to NDBC in engineering, operations, data quality, information technology, property, transportation, quality assurance, safety and environmental compliance, as well as support of specific technical areas.

The total amount of the contract award is $5,596,957 for the base period and a five- year estimated contract value of $30,534,888. The cost-plus-award-fee contract provides incentives for the contractor to provide high quality services at a controlled cost.

The National Data Buoy Center, a national center within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Weather Service, operates and maintains a network of about 125 automated moored buoys and coastal stations in all seas bordering the United States, including Alaska, Hawaii and Micronesia. The network provides hourly measurements of wind speed and direction, atmospheric pressure, air and sea surface temperature, and sea state information for operational use by weather forecasters in forecasting, warnings and numerical modeling.
