Man Charged with Theft of Computers from Indianapolis VA Medical Center
Special Agent-in-Charge John W. Brooks, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of Inspector General, Office of Investigations, Central Field Office, and Special Agent-in-Charge Michael S. Welch, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Indianapolis Division, announced today that Joseph A. Radican, 50, of Speedway, Indiana, was arrested and charged with one count of felony theft.

Brooks said Radican was charged in a one-count information in Marion Superior Court, Criminal Division. The information charges that on or about November 10, 2007, Radican stole computers and electronic equipment from the Richard Roudebush VA Medical Center.

The personal information of more than 11,000 veterans was stored on one of the computers. Shortly after the theft occurred in November, a reward of up to $10,000 was offered for information concerning the location and return of the missing computers and equipment. The computers are described as a Dell Optiplex GX260 desktop computer, a Dell Optiplex GX620 desktop computer, and a Toshiba 6000 laptop computer. Two computer monitors (one Dell and one Samsung) and one Hewlett Packard printer are the other missing items. While Radican has been charged with the theft, the computers have not yet been recovered. Anyone with information regarding the current location of the missing computers is asked to contact the Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General at (800) 488-8244 or the Indianapolis Office of the FBI at (317) 639-3301.

Providing valuable assistance in this investigation were the Indianapolis VA Police Department, the Speedway Police Department, Indianapolis Metro Police Department, and the Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office is prosecuting the case.
