Program Description

Laboratories conduct applied research and development, provide technical assistance, develop multimedia educational materials and other products, and disseminate information in an effort to help others use knowledge from research and practice to improve education.


Additional Information

The U.S. Department of Education intends to enter into 5-year contracts with qualified entities to establish a networked system of ten Regional Educational Laboratories to carry out applied research, development, dissemination, and technical assistance activities to serve the needs of each region of the United States in accordance with the provisions stated in the Education Sciences Reform Act of 2002 (Public Law 107-279, Part D, Section 174). Eligible applicants include research organizations, institutions, agencies, institutions of higher education, or partnerships among such entities, or individuals, with the demonstrated ability or capacity to carry out the activities authorized under the statute. ED intends to make a separate award for each of the 10 laboratory regions. ED does not intend to make changes in the current regional configuration. The RFP was released on July 15, 2005, and the date of closing is October 3, 2005.
