Attorneys provide independent legal advice, counsel and support to the Inspector General and other OIG management officials and staff and serve as the OIG's liaison with VA's Office of General Counsel on legal issues relating to various OIG reviews of VA programs.

Hotline specialists receive complaints from VA employes, veterans, the public and members of Congress. They analyze the complaints and determine what action the OIG will take with respect to the complaints. Complaints are received via telephone, fax, electronic mail and regular mail.

Budget Analysts are responsible for developing budgets and narrative justifications for future OIG-wide requirements, planning for the use of those funds after they are appropriated by Congress, monitoring the expenditure of these resources during the current fiscal year, and ensuring that all invoices are paid in a timely manner to prevent interest charges.

Human Resource advisors assist all OIG employees. They provide guidance and counsel to managers in the classification of positions and the filling of staff vacancies, advise on employee development and training, oversee the conduct management and performance management programs, advise on employee relations issues, write OIG human resource policy, represent the OIG on intra- and inter-agency committees, and orchestrate the OIG's Annual Awards Ceremony.

Information Technology (IT) experts manage nationwide IT support, systems development and integration; represent the OIG on numerous intra- and inter-agency IT organizations; provide strategic planning for all OIG IT requirements; and gather data and provide analysis support to all components of the OIG that need information from VA's automated systems.

Management Analysts work in the OIG in several capacities. They may follow up and track compliance with OIG recommendations, develop OIG policy and review VA policy documents, respond to the public's requests for information under the Freedom of Information Act, perform strategic and operational planning, and assist program offices (e.g., Investigations) in the performance of their mission.
