Public Assistance Projects
The objective of the Public Assistance (PA) Grant Program is to assist states, local governments, and certain private nonprofit organizations in alleviating suffering and hardship that results from major disasters or Presidentially declared emergencies. The PA Grant Program provides supplemental Federal disaster grant assistance for the repair, replacement, or restoration of disaster-damaged, publicly owned facilities and the facilities of certain private nonprofit organizations.
Public Assistance Projects by Category
The PA Grant Program has seven work categories that are described below. Click on an XLS link below to view a spreadsheet of all PA projects in the selected category.
Emergency Work
- Category A: Debris Removal
Removal of debris, including clearance of trees, woody debris, and building wreckage; sand, mud, silt, gravel; and other disaster-related material on public property. (At this time Category A projects are not posted on the web site. It is anticipated that they will be posted in the future).
- Category B: Emergency Protective Measures (XLS 278KB)
Measures taken before, during, and after a disaster to save lives and protect public health and safety.
Permanent Work
- Category C: Road Systems and Bridges (XLS 40KB)
Roads, bridges, and associated features, such as shoulders, ditches, culverts, lighting and signs.
- Category D: Water Control Facilities (XLS 20KB)
Water control facilities, including drainage channels, pumping facilities, and the emergency repair of levees. Permanent repair of flood control works is the responsibility of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Natural Resources Conservation Service.
- Category E: Buildings, Contents, and Equipment (XLS 510KB)
Repair or replacement of public buildings, including contents and systems; heavy equipment; and vehicles.
- Category F: Utilities (XLS 69KB)
Utility distribution systems, such as water treatment and delivery systems, power generation facilities and distribution lines, and sewage collection and treatment facilities.
- Category G: Parks, Recreational, and Other (XLS 73KB)
Public parks, recreational facilities and other facilities, including playgrounds, swimming pools and cemeteries.
