Commissioner Spitzer's statement on pipeline posting Final Rule

“Sunlight is the best disinfectant” is a well-known quote from U.S. Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis. This quote refers to the benefits of openness and transparency.

Today, we issue a Final Rule that provides sunlight and increase price transparency in the interstate natural gas markets by providing information about the supply and demand fundamentals that underlie those markets. We make the rule applicable to major non-interstate pipelines as well to ensure that there is price transparency throughout the entire natural gas market. I believe that this was Congress’ intent when it enacted EPAct 2005 and, thus, support the order.”
