Siuslaw National Forest (541) 750-7000 TTY for hearing & speech impaired: |
September 27 and 28 ~ Fee Free Days on the SiuslawContacts: September 19, 2008 Corvallis, OR – On Saturday, September 27 and Sunday, September 28, the Siuslaw National Forest will join other national forests throughout the nation by waiving recreation fees at day-use sites managed by the National Forest. These sites include trailheads, picnic areas, visitor centers, boat launches, and other sites where day-use fees are charged. Not included in the fee free day are campgrounds, heritage tours, recreation rentals, special recreation permits, or sites managed by concessionaires. “This is a great opportunity for people to visit and enjoy their national forest,” said Siuslaw Forest Supervisor Barnie Gyant. “As summer winds down families are encouraged to come for a hike, enjoy a picnic, or explore the coastal tidepools on the Siuslaw.” Each year, the Forest Service, along with other agencies, celebrates National Public Lands Day. NPLD encourages citizen stewardship and visitation to lands managed by the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Interior through volunteer projects and fee free recreation opportunities. This year National Public Lands Day is on September 27. Another day of celebration, Honoring New U.S. Citizens will be on September 28. This additional interagency Fee Free Day is a one-time event in honor of new citizens of the United States, as part of the interagency “This Land is Your Land” initiative kicked off on Ellis Island July 7, 2008. Information about recreation opportunities on the Siuslaw National Forest can be found on the web at www.fs.fed.us/r6/siuslaw/tripplanning.
