Corvallis, OR – With predicted warm weather on the way, Carl West, Fire Management Officer for the Siuslaw National Forest announced that fire season will go into effect as of midnight Saturday, June 28.

“A warming and drying trend with temperatures in the 90's predicted for the weekend with possible lightening forecasted puts the Siuslaw Forest in an Industrial Fire Precaution Level 1 (IFPL1)”, said West.

An IFPL1 requires forest timber operators to have fire equipment on site.

“While there are no plans for any public use restrictions at this point in time we ask forest visitors to remain cautious and aware of human caused fire situations”, West added.

Never leave a campfire unattended and always make sure your fire is out before leaving the area. Do not discard cigarettes or matches on the forest floor.

Please be careful when visiting or traveling through the Forest. For the current fire danger rating please visit our web site at www.fs.fed.us/r6/siuslaw/ or contact your nearest forest service office.
