Big Creek Road Closed For Culvert Replacement

Waldport, OR – A project to replace three culverts on Forest Road 57, locally known as the Big Creek Road, will cause a temporary road closure. The project is scheduled to start June 24 with the road closure occurring from July 7 to September 21.
“ We will be replacing old culverts that have restricted passage of aquatic species, with newer, larger fish friendly culverts”, said project manager Paul Bennett. The project is one of a number of similar projects undertaken on the Siuslaw National Forest in recent years.
The culvert replacement project will affect approximately 3 miles of the Big Creek Road between milepost 6.2 and the junction with Forest Road 5800. Both ends of the project will be signed to inform travelers of the closure.
The Big Creek road, located approximately 12 miles north of Florence, is a popular tie between the North Fork Siuslaw and U.S. Highway 101. Travelers looking for an alternate route may use Forest Road 56, which runs along Tenmile Creek.
