Waldport, OR – The Central Coast Ranger District of the Siuslaw National Forest is seeking public comment on the preliminary analysis for the proposed West Alsea Landscape Management Project.

The project proposes a variety of restoration and associated activities including commercial and non-commercial thinning in plantations, snag and down wood creation, underburning and seeding in plantations, meadow maintenance, road maintenance, and placement of large wood in Canal Creek and its tributaries, and in sloughs in lower Drift Creek.

These, along with other proposed activities, would meet the project needs outlined in Chapter 1 of the analysis. Hard copies of the preliminary analysis are available at the District office in Waldport, and the Supervisor’s office in Corvallis. Preliminary Analysis documents are also available on the Forest website: www.fs.fed.us/r6/siuslaw/projects/nepa .

The proposed project area lies in the western portion of the Alsea River watershed and is in Township 13 South, Ranges 10 and 11 West; and Township 14 South, Ranges 10, 11, and 12 West; Lincoln County, Oregon.

The 30-day comment period will end on March 13, 2008. An appeal may be filed by any person or any non-Federal organization or entity that provided comment or otherwise
expressed interest in this proposed action by the close of the comment period (36 CFR 215.11(2), 2002 rule).

Comments received through the U.S. Postal Service must be postmarked no later than the end of the 30-day comment period. All other comments, including e-mail, fax, and personal delivery must be received by close of business (4:30 PM) at the Central Coast Ranger District’s Waldport office by the end of the 30-day comment period.

Written comments should be sent to Pam Gardner, District Ranger, Central Coast Ranger District, P.O. Box 400, Waldport, OR 97394; or by fax at (541) 563-8449; or by e-mail at “comments-pacificnorthwest-siuslaw-centralcoast@fs.fed.us”.

Written comments shall include your name, address, and (if possible) telephone number; title of the document on which you are commenting; and specific facts or comments along with supporting reasons that you believe the Responsible Official should consider in reaching a decision.

To request a copy of the preliminary analysis, or for addition information on the Project contact Jan Robbins at (541) 563-8423, or Bruce Buckley at (541) 563-8412, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m..
