Reedsport, OR – The Oregon Dunes Day Use Area located 10 miles south of Florence off US Highway 101 is receiving needed repairs and upgrades to existing facilities. Work is expected to begin Monday, January 14, 2008 and is expected to be completed the first part of February.

“We will be making repairs to the upper deck of the viewing platform, as well as repairing sidewalks, replacing skylights in the restrooms and replacing the drinking fountain,” said Deputy District Ranger Bill Blackwell.

To provide for public safety during the construction period, the area will be closed to the public.

Repairs to this popular recreation site are made possible using funds collected through the recreation fee program. In addition, crews from the Lane County Sheriff’s Forest Work Camp will be completing much of the work. The crews are funded through Title III of the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act, 2000.
