The Mission Lookout has experienced several face-lifts in its 75 year history as a fire detection tower. The existing structure was built in 1959 and consists of a 15x15 foot cabin atop a 40' tower with windows on all sides. This lookout allows unobstructed views of the Swan and Mission Mountain Ranges and Swan Lake down in the valley. It still has its original lighting protection system still in place in case of a summer thunderstorm.

The Mission Lookout is located 3 miles southwest of Swan Lake, MT. Because
of the type of lookout, this facility is not recommended for children
under 12. The lookout rents for $25 per night and the maximum party size
is 4. This facility is available from June 1 through August 15, and September
15 through October 20. Water must be packed in by the reserving party.

COST: $25 per night.
AMENITIES: Propane cookstove, Lights, , Pots & Pans, Utensils & cutlery, Dishes, Cleaning items, Outhouse.
CABIN RULES:
- Party size at Mission Lookout is 4 people
- Maximum stay length is 3 nights
- Check in and out time is 2 p.m.
- Pets or livestock are prohibited
- Store all food, beverages, coolers, and garbage in a bear resistant manner
- Pack out your garbage
- Bring your own bedding
- Camping and RV use is prohibited at the cabins
- No smoking or candle use inside cabins
- OHV’s are not recommended, since they must be licensed with the state of MT and can only operate on open roads in this area
- Snowmobiles are restricted to designated routes, contact Ranger District for a map
- Pack out your garbage, sweep and mop the floors, wipe the counters down, and close the windows

If you made your reservation prior to Feb 2nd with the Swan Lake District office call the Swan Lake Ranger District 7 days in advance of your reservation for the combination to the cabin/lookout you are renting.
