Summary

Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO identified the types of mental health services offered under state Medicaid programs.

GAO found that: (1) several federal agencies published data concerning state expenditures and the number of service recipients, but did not publish much specific information concerning available mental health services; and (2) various private organizations published detailed information about the mental health services available to Medicaid recipients.
