Larsen Keeps Fighting for Farmers, Stays on Ag Committee

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) today announced that he will continue serving on the House Agriculture Committee. He will maintain his seats on the General Farm Commodities and Risk Management Subcommittee and the Livestock and Horticulture Subcommittee.

“As the only member from Washington state on the House Agriculture Committee, it is important for me to continue providing a strong voice for Northwest farmers,” Larsen said.

Larsen is the first Member of Congress from Western Washington in over half a century to serve on the Agriculture Committee. This will be Larsen’s fifth year on the committee.

He continued, “With more than 4,000 farms in the Second Congressional District and with agriculture as the state’s top economic engine, I will keep fighting for farmers and agriculture.”

During the 109th Congress, Larsen wants to continue his efforts to provide farmers with the tools they need to keep agriculture viable in Washington state and the nation. In addition, he will also work within the committee to address hunger issues.

“Washington state is 11th in the nation when it comes to agriculture production, yet our state ranks 5th when it comes to hunger in the U.S,” Larsen explained. “We have the resources and ability to fight and win the war on hunger, especially in such an agriculture-rich state.”

Larsen represents Washington state’s Second Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. The Second District is home to over 125 agricultural products. Whatcom County is first in the nation in raspberry production and 10th in dairy production.  Skagit County is the leading producer of red potatoes in the country.  More tulip, iris and daffodil bulbs are produced in Skagit County than in any other county in the U.S.
