State and Private Forestry - Pacific Southwest Region

Welcome

State and Private Forestry in the Pacific Southwest Region reaches across the boundaries of National Forests to States, Tribes, communities and non-industrial private landowners. We provide technical and financial assistance to landowners and resource managers to help sustain forests and protect communities throughout the region, including: California, Hawaii, American Samoa, Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Palau and the Republic of the Marshall Island.

State and Private Forestry promotes the health, productivity and diversity of all forests across all ownership boundaries; and to improve the health and vitality of rural and urban communities in an integrated effort with State Forestry organizations and other partners. Through a coordinated effort in management, protection and better use, the Forest Health Protection and Cooperative Forestry programs of S&PF help facilitate sound stewardship across ownerships on a landscape scale, while maintaining the flexibility of individual forest landowners to pursue their objectives.

Information gathered and reported by the SP&F programs respond to the four threats identified by Forest Service Chief Dale Bosworth as having the greatest impact on the health of our Nation’s forests and grasslands: Fire and fuels, invasive species, loss of open space, and unmanaged recreation. To learn more about each threat, visit the Four Threats section of national web site.
