Larsen Opposes Irresponsible Budget Cuts for the Third Time

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) today voted against final approval of the Republican spending reconciliation bill (S.1932).  Not a single democrat voted for the measure, which passed by a narrow margin of 216 to 214.  The Republican passed conference report will now be sent to the President’s desk for his signature.

Larsen released the following statement on his vote:

“I voted against the Republican budget reconciliation bill the last two times it came before the House.  I voted against final approval today because these budget cuts are fiscally-irresponsible and morally-reprehensible.

“These budget cuts, paired with a larger reconciliation package of tax cuts, will actually result in an increased deficit.

“These cuts hurt those who need help the most.  These budget cuts slash funding to Medicare, Medicaid, student loan programs, and child support collections upon which struggling parents rely.

“We should be embracing these programs, not cutting them off at the knees.

“Congress can do better than a pass a budget reconciliation bill that saddles the neediest Americans with the heaviest burden.

“It is time bring fiscal and moral responsibility back to the federal government.
