National Center for Ethics in Health Care

VHA National Ethics Committee

Originally founded in 1986, in 2002 the National Ethics Committee (NEC) was re-organized as a standing subcommittee of the Executive Committee of VHA's National Leadership Board, with an interdisciplinary and broadly representative membership that includes both VHA leaders and staff. The NEC is overseen by the Ethics Center and is responsible for providing guidance on pressing ethical issues of concern to VHA through concise, readable reports directed toward VHA clinicians, managers, and researchers.

NEC reports clarify issues of concern to VHA to guide ethical decision making; provide timely, practical information and recommendations; and reflect VHA's commitment to excellence in health care ethics.
