Description The objective of this project is to organize and conduct an international workshop on recent advances in cleanup of oil spills in ice and cold climates. The Oil in Ice Workshop presentations can be viewed by clicking on the hotlink and then clicking on the large workshop logo. The workshop was conducted October 10-12, 2007 at the Marriott hotel in Anchorage, AK. The workshop objective is to provide an international forum for presentation and discussion of key research, operational and logistical issues associated with the response to accidental spills from exploration and development projects in ice-affected environments.

Workshop funders are: Minerals Management Service, Alaska Clean Seas, Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, Cook Inlet Spill Prevention and Response, Prince William Sound Oil Spill Recovery Institute and the U.S. Coast Guard.

Progress

The Oil in Ice workshop was successfully conducted October 10-11, 2007 at the Marriott hotel, Anchorage, AK. There were 276 registered attendees from nine countries (Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Norway, Russia, Sweden, United Kingdom and United States). Throughout the workshop, the general public, private industry and academic institutions were made aware that the Minerals Management Service  through the Technology Assessment and Research program is actively funding and conducting funding research to improve the knowledge, technologies, and methodologies used to detect, contain, and clean up of oil spills that may occur in the worlds Arctic regions.
