  • Among the performance measurement tools recommended in the Booz Allen Hamilton report above were the Northwestern University OPUS instruments, described in: Heinemann AW, Bode R, O'Reilly C. The National Center for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (NCPTSD) aims to advance the clinical care and social welfare of US veterans through research, education, and training on PTSD and stress-related disorders.  Additional information can be found on the NCPTSD website: http://www.ncptsd.va.gov/ncmain/index.jsp

In May 2001, the Secretary of Veterans Affairs established two centers for the study of war-related illnesses. Initially these centers were titled the CSWRI (Center for the Study of War-Related Illnesses). Later, they were renamed the War-Related Illness and Injury Centers—WRIISC (pronounced "risk"). These centers are located in the Washington, DC and East Orange, NJ Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Centers.  Additional information about WRIISC can be found at:  http://www.wri.med.va.gov/index.html

VA's QUERI program is designed to translate research discoveries and innovations into better patient care and systems improvements. QUERI focuses on nine high-risk and/or highly prevalent diseases or conditions among veterans: Chronic Heart Failure, Diabetes, HIV/Hepatitis, Ischemic Heart Disease, Mental Health, Polytrauma, Spinal Cord Injury, Stroke, and Substance Use Disorders.  More information is on the HSR&D QUERI webpage:  http://www.hsrd.research.va.gov/QUERI/

Polytrauma Blast Related Injury QUERI Center

Funding for the Polytrauma and Blast-Related Injuries Center (PT/BRI QUERI Center), began in October 2005. The mission of the PT/BRI QUERI Center is to promote the successful rehabilitation, psychological adjustment and community re-integration of individuals who have polytrauma and blast-related injuries.http://www.hsrd.minneapolis.med.va.gov/PTqueri/
