Mississippi Office of Rural Health

The Mississippi State Office of Rural Health (MORH) works to help rural communities build productive health care delivery systems. The Office administers three federal grants and is engaged in data collection on rural health needs, policy analysis and development, the provision of technical assistance, health manpower recruitment, coordination of rural health interests state-wide, and support for rural facilities.

The Office was established by the 1990 Session of the Mississippi Legislature with the assistance of a federal State Offices of Rural Health Grant and an internal allocation of Mississippi State Department of Health funds. Of the 82 counties in the state, 65 are non-metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs). With 80% of the counties being non-MSAs, Mississippi is one of the most rural states in the nation.
