This second volume in the By the Sweat & Toil of Children series examines the use of child labor in agricultural products imported by the United States, and forced or bonded child labor used in the manufacturing, mining, farming, and service sectors.
The report notes that child agricultural workers and child slaves are largely invisible, a fact which only worsens their working conditions. This volume looks at why child labor is utilized in the commercial agricultural sector, the conditions of such employment, and the effect it has on a child's ability to obtain an education. It also addresses these issues with more detail by looking at specific agricultural products from Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
The second part of the report defines forced and bonded child labor and explains some ways in which children become involved in such situations. These explanations are followed by a more detailed examination of the forced and bonded child labor situation in various industries and sectors of Asia and Latin America. 210 pages. 1995.
