Current Studies

The research component of our center consists of basic science, clinical, and health services research. The basic science component is focused on understanding the persistent effects of exposure to environmental and psychological stressors, the interaction between these factors, the mechanisms that underlie the maintenance of these effects, and how individual differences in stress responsiveness contribute to these effects.

The clinical research component addresses the investigation of deployment related symptoms most commonly reported by veterans with the unifying hypothesis that stress and individual differences in susceptibility to stress or environmental exposures may explain the occurrence of war related symptoms.

The health services research component emphasizes the investigation of deployment related health concerns and their perception, as well as the assessment of perceived risks of environmental and psychological exposure in hostile areas.
