A Junior Ranger certification class will be offered at the Cle Elum Ranger Station on Saturday, July 25, 2008 . The class will begin at 9 AM and will end at noon . The Cle Elum Ranger District is collaborating with a dedicated group of volunteers known as the “V” (for volunteer) Team who is sponsoring this fun and educational activity for kids.

The class will allow participants ages 6-11 years old to move through six stations that act out different scenarios based on “Leave No Trace” ethics and ideals. The stations will focus on all types of recreation including horseback riding, mountain biking, dirt biking, hiking , and jeeping. The kids will work together in groups to problem solve and demonstrate their skills as responsible forest visitors.

At the end of the class, the newly awarded junior rangers will receive junior ranger certificates and t-shirts courtesy of the “V” Team.

“This will be a fun educational opportunity for kids who want to learn different ways to recreate responsibly,” said Mikki Douglass, Cle Elum Ranger District Off Road Vehicle Ranger. “Parents can participate too by helping with the scenarios.”

Pre-registration is required. To sign up, please visit the cleelumtrails.com website and follow the links to the Kid’s Page and then to “registration”. There is a registration fee of $10 that will help compensate the “V” Team for their expenses. A light snack and beverages will be provided.

The “V” Team is a group of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers who has worked with the Cle Elum Ranger District for many years helping with trail maintenance and educational programs. For information on joining this team please visit the cleelumtrails.com website and look for the “V” Team link.
