Abstract: (CIT): Dr. Zamponi's research activities focus on the biophysics, molecular biology, electrophysiology, and pharmacology of calcium channels and their roles in neurological disorders. Of particular interest to his laboratory are the molecular determinants that govern the interactions between presynaptic calcium channels, G. proteins and the SNARE protein complex. A second major aspect of his work is centered around the molecular mechanisms which control calcium channel inactivation. Dr. Zamponi's lab works extensively in the area of drug discovery for novel treatments of pain and stroke. NIH Neuroscience Seminar Series.
