Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) Reports
The Interagency Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) Team’s primary
mission is to evaluate potential threats to life, property and
resources, which could result from the recent wildfire. The team’s
fire assessments will include review of the overall burn severity,
fire effects, and rehabilitation needs for cultural and natural
resources and infrastructure.
Upon completion of this assessment, short-term emergency
stabilization and rehabilitation measures will be initiated. The
primary objectives are to protect life, property and resources, and
to reduce further resource damage that may be caused by flooding as
a direct result of the fire. The team is focusing on the potential
for accelerated erosion and runoff from the loss of vegetation and
charred soils.
The BAER Teams are comprise with specialists that include
disciplines such as hydrology, soil science, archeology, geology,
engineering, geographic information systems, wildlife biology,
forestry and plant biology.
