Revised Titan Documentation Includes SSH Information
Two Titan manuals, Titan Batch Processing and Network Access to Titan, have been updated recently and are now available to users from the CIT publication service.
Updated Titan Batch Processing Manual
The Titan Batch Processing manual has been updated with information on using SSH (Secure Shell) to transfer data between Titan and another host. It is particularly useful for transfers to Unix hosts, as SSH is part of the Unix System Services (USS) and can automatically translate between the ASCII and EBCDIC character sets. The transfers are carried out in batch jobs.
Because a userid must be specifically authorized to use USS, users who need USS should contact the NIH Help Desk. Keep in mind that the userid cannot contain the "$" character.
Please see the updated Titan Batch Processing (June 27, 2006, or most recent) for more precise instructions on using SSH to transfer data.
Updated Network Access Manual
Network Access to Titan (July 2006), which provides specific information on transferring files to and from Titan using FTP and on initiating interactive sessions through TN3270, has been newly revised to include updated FTP examples and introductory information on SSH (Secure Shell) transfers for Titan. If you plan to use SSH, be sure to refer to the new Titan Batch Processing manual for more complete information.
How to Get Copies
To view these updated publications in Adobe Acrobat (PDF format), or to order a hardcopy, go to the CIT publications Web page. Look under the category z/OS Systems and click on the "z/OS Connectivity" link for Network Access to Titan; look under "Batch Processing and JCL" for Titan Batch Processing.
Any user with a Titan userid can print copies of the manuals on the central printers. Copies can be placed in your output box, mailed, or held for pickup at CIT. You also have the option of printing to your local desktop printer while viewing these publications in PDF or on the Web.
If you need help ordering any CIT publications, please call the NIH Help Desk at 301-496-4357.
Stay Up to Date
We strongly recommend that all users of CIT's mainframe services subscribe to two e-mail lists that announce new issues of Titan News and Interface. Subscribing is easy from their respective Web pages.
In addition, you can subscribe to the "CIT-Doc-Renew" list that sends you e-mail notification whenever a new manual is available. CIT only distributes updates of publications when they are specifically requested.
