Pandemic Influenza

An influenza pandemic is a rare event. It is a world-wide spread of a flu virus that passes easily from person-to-person. Three pandemics occurred in the previous century, with the 1918 pandemic killing an estimated 40–50 million people worldwide.

There is an influenza which began in Southeast Asia and is now spreading around the world in wild birds. This avian influenza, H5N1, also can infect people. Currently, the H5N1 virus does not have the ability to spread easily from person-to-person. But if this avian influenza mutates and becomes contagious among people, it could spread worldwide, causing a pandemic.

No one knows if this avian influenza virus will become a pandemic. To learn more about avian and pandemic flu, and to protect yourself against it, please click here.

Meth Labs Listed on IDHW State Web Site

In 2005, the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare (IDHW) was given authority and responsibility by the Idaho Legislature to develop a program to add and remove properties that were used as clandestine drug laboratories. IDHW was also given authority to develop rules establishing acceptable standards for the cleanup of clandestine drug laboratories, specifically methamphetamine: Senate Bill 1122.  The rules were approved by the Legislature and became effective on April 11, 2006. Since that date, all properties reported as clandestine drug (meth) labs are added to the Clandestine Drug Laboratory Site Property List.
