Biosketch

Glen Hortin is a graduate of the Medical Scientist Training Program (MD, PhD) at Washington University. His thesis studies in the laboratory of Dr. Irving Boime examined basic mechanisms in the processing of proteins. After completing residency training in clinical pathology at Barnes Hospital, he joined the faculty at Washington University in the Department of Pediatrics and served as assistant director of clinical chemistry at St. Louis Children's Hospital. He served on the faculty of the University of Alabama at Birmingham as associate professor of pathology and head of the section of clinical chemistry. In 1997, he joined the NIH Department of Laboratory Medicine, and, in 2000, he became chief of clinical chemistry.

Dr. Hortin has published extensively on research relating to clinical laboratory test development, evaluation, and diagnostic applications of proteomics. He has served on the editorial boards of several journals including Clinical Chemisty, Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, and Clinical Proteomics and has served on a number of advisory panels or committees including the Immunology Devices Panel of the Food & Drug Administration and the Point-of-Care Testing Committee of the College of American Pathologists. He recently helped found the Proteomics Division of the American Association for Clinical Chemistry and served as chair of the division in 2005.
